MAY NOSTALGIA

NOT BE A SYNONYM

OF DEATH

serie truismos, 2024—present.

Truisms is a series in which the artist explores the dynamics between memory and contemporary crisis through the use of common phrases, idiomatic expressions, and archival sayings from the south-central Andes of Colombia.

Drawing on data from 20th-century archives, the work reveals how meaning emerges through language when words are placed across blank canvases, projections, sound recordings, and video. Inspired by the artist Jenny Holzer, the truism is explored in multiple languages and scenarios.

These words invite the viewer to immerse themselves in a cognitive process where memory and meaning are intertwined with language. In doing so, the work opens up multiple interpretive possibilities—like intricate castles and labyrinths—through which words become spaces of exploration, reflection, and reconfiguration.

CUANDO EL SOL SALE, SALE PARA TODOS

The work was first exhibited as part of the inaugural first contemporary art show in museum of art in Tolima, Colombia—the artist’s homeland—marking its debut within a collective exhibition. Presented as painted wooden table, framed and hung on the wall, the piece served as both object and memory placeholder.
